Personal Background
Dr. Shilpa Mishra, born on August 18, 1990, hails from a distinguished family of musicians in Azamgarh District, Uttar Pradesh. she is the daughter of Pt Bholanath Mishra and Rukmini Mishra. From an early age, Shilpa was immersed in music, drawing inspiration and learning from her Tau Ji, Pt. Dina Nath Mishra, and her father, Pt. Bhola Nath Mishra, both esteemed figures in the Banaras-Hariharpur Gharana tradition. Balancing her personal life with her professional commitments, she is married to Mr. RadhaKant Jha, an Aeronautical Engineer.
Educational Background
Shilpa’s journey in music ran parallel with her general education. She completed her schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Delhi, in 2007, securing First Division in A.I.S.S.C.E. She pursued her passion for music academically by graduating with honors from the Faculty of Music and Fine Arts, Delhi University. Continuing her dedication to the art, Shilpa earned a Master’s Degree in vocal classical music from Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, KheraGarh University, in 2012, again securing First Division.
Her academic pursuit in music did not stop there. She returned to the Faculty of Music and Fine Arts, Delhi University, to complete her M.Phil. and Ph.D. in vocal music under the guidance of Prof. Geeta Paintal. Her doctoral thesis was titled “Uttar Bhartiya Upshastriya Sangeet Mein Benaras Gharaney Ki Kuchh Pramukh Mahila Kalakaro ka Sangatik Yogdaan.”
Musical Training and Expertise

Dr. Shilpa Mishra’s musical training is deeply rooted in the traditions of the Banaras Gharana. She was fortunate to be mentored by her Tau Ji, Pt. Dina Nath Mishra, a renowned classical artist and top-grade AIR artist from Kolkata, and her father, Pt. Bhola Nath Mishra, an eminent Hindustani Classical Vocalist and top-grade staff artist at All India Radio.
Specializing in Thumri, Dadra, Kajri, Chaiti, Hori, and Bhajan of Purab Ang, Shilpa has developed a distinctive style characterized by a soft, emotive, and spiritual approach, deeply influenced by the ethos of the Banaras Gharana.
